FITBJJ - Intro For Self Defense, Martial Arts, Brazilian Ju Jitsu BJJ & Boxing

Two Best Martial Arts for Self-Defense

At FITBJJ, we look to do our absolute best at providing an all-round great curriculum to teach people the most proper striking and grappling techniques Maryville / Alcoa has to offer. As a result, our students are able to develop real world skills while getting a fantastic and interactive workout to help build strength and promote fat loss.

In reality, there are two main factors that come into play when choosing a martial art that one can apply in a self-defense scenario. One of these factors is real-world applicability. In other words, do the techniques taught actually consider what a real-world attacker would do? Will the techniques work against resistance? The second factor being the consistency in which you can safely practice the techniques for them to become second nature in case a self-defense scenario was to occur.

On the same token, we find it to be heavily relevant that we teach our students techniques that enable them to be more prepared to defend themselves in various contexts of hand-to-hand combat when they cannot be avoided for any given reason. Therefore, we found both Jiu-Jitsu and Boxing to be two of the most relevant martial arts when it comes to improving one’s self-defense capabilities.

HERE’S WHY

Boxing is one of the oldest and most celebrated martial arts in the world. It utilizes footwork, head movement and punches to form a very efficient striking system. A great boxing school teaches you how to handle an opponent in front of you that aims to use punches to either wear you down or knock you out. As a result, there are many defensive and offensive tactics one can learn to not only avoid these strikes as much as possible, but also counter with some strikes of your own. When an opponent is very good at managing distance, it is important that one know how to manage themselves in that distance and perhaps create more distance, or alternatively, close the distance if needed in order to avoid strikes.

Jiu-jitsu on the other hand is a grappling based martial art. Utilizing leverage and proper manipulation of an opponent’s mechanics, Ju-jitsu teaches you how to better control a person who is trying to harm you. Ultimately, the idea we set forth is that if striking becomes a dangerous option, what does one do when distance in shortened and striking becomes obsolete? Well, this is where Jiu-jitsu becomes a far more safe and controlled option. What do you do when a fight ends up on the floor as most fights do? Jiu-jitsu teaches you that it is far easier to control a grounded opponent than a standing opponent. So, if you need to avoid strikes and cannot create distance, then you must close the distance. When distance is closed, it becomes far more difficult to land any significant strikes. As a result, you are able to maneuver your body in such a way that puts you at a significant positional advantage where you can either control your opponent and use either strikes or submission holds to subdue them. This is famously demonstrated in sports like MMA (Mixed Martial Arts).

At FITBJJ we have found that having a well-versed background in martial arts such as Boxing and Jiu-jitsu will not only help with building a well-rounded fitness foundation; but they are also two of the most effective forms of martial arts that almost any individual can practice in a relatively safe environment at a consistent rate while still developing the relevant skills needed to protect yourself in a real world scenario where self-defense may be required.

BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-jitsu) grappling can make a football player an even better player due to (although not limited to) the mechanical drivers that are involved within the two sports
Improve Your Physical & Mental Fitness With BJJ
BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) was developed with the purpose of promoting the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using proper leverage and technique to control an assailant or submit them
